LPR leader asks Putin to recognize self-proclaimed republic's independence

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Head of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) Leonid Pasechnik has asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the independence and sovereignty of the LPR.

"Dear Vladimir Vladimirovich, with the aim of averting the death of a large number of the republic's residents [...], I ask you to recognize the sovereignty and independence of the Luhansk People's Republic," Pasechnik said in a statement aired on the Rossiya 24 (VGTRK) television channel.

Pasechnik also asked Putin to consider the possibility of concluding a friendship and cooperation treaty between Russia and the LPR.
