Matviyenko calls on Putin to make decision on DPR, LPR

MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matviyenko has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to make a decision on the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.

"A decision finally needs to be made. There was enough patience and sufficient arguments to make Ukraine fulfil the Minsk Agreements, to take a peaceful democratic path. Obviously, they don't plan on that, they don't want it and they won't do it," Matviyenko said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council on Friday.

"Russia just already has a moral duty," she said.

"I can't watch these videos, I think of poor old women who are crying, children going to school in basements. The entire global community is watching this with their eyes closed. It's impossible to speak about European values after that. It's anti-human, anti-moral, one can't put up with this further, a decision needs to be made," Matviyenko said.

"If recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk Republics solves this problem, it means it's obvious that we need to take this step. Of course, the threats of sanctions are painful and unpleasant. The time has come. We can't delay. A decision needs to be made," she said.
