MOSCOW. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Russia is more important for the West than Ukraine, therefore, the situation surrounding Moscow's recognition of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people's republics "will cool down" over time, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said.
"Let's be honest: Russia is much more important than Ukraine for the international community, for our friends in the United States and the European Union. And everyone, including Ukrainians, understands this. This is why, of course, we always need to avoid sharp corners, but still the laws of the genre are such that the situation surrounding the recognition of the relevant territories is ultimately most likely to cool down over time. We know this from our past experience," Medvedev said at a meeting of the Russian Security Council.
