Kyiv insists on immediate anti-Russia sanctions

KYIV. Feb 22 (Interfax) - Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has called on Western countries to immediately apply new sanctions against Russia.

"Our position is clear: sanctions must be used against Russia. The time has come," Kuleba said in a video address from Washington on Tuesday.

He said he has "had several telephone calls with the U.S. secretary of state, the foreign secretaries of Canada and the United Kingdom, and the EU foreign policy chief."

"The key subject was sanctions, there is nothing to hide here. What counts most now is what sanctions will be imposed on Russia and when," Kuleba said.

Ukraine has requested for all possible international formats and international meetings to be convened and insists on holding summits and applying all possible international mechanisms to deter Russia, he said.

"All of us perfectly understand what is happening and how Russia is provoking us. We should display wisdom and composure to prevent the unfolding of armed confrontation," he said.

"Another strategic goal is looking for a solution benefiting Ukraine in the current situation," he said.
