SAMARA. Feb 28 (Interfax) - The United Nations Secretariat has informed Russia that it cannot ensure the Russian delegation's participation in a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said.
"In this situation, the United Nations, its Secretariat and its secretary general allegedly have no capability to ensure the Russian delegation's participation in this meeting," Zakharova told the Rossiya 1 (VGTRK) television channel.
UN official say that the Russian delegation needs to "receive some documents that EU countries will now devise for planes that are subject to sanctions," she said.
"It's nonsense! What documents, what rules, what instructions are they talking about? What's all this about?" Zakharova said.
"The responsibility of the United Nations and the host country is to ensure the work of all member countries, especially in a time of crisis," she said.
As reported earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was supposed to visit Geneva on February 28-March 1 to attend the UNHRC's high-level segment and a disarmament conference.
Zakharova said earlier that the program of Lavrov's visit to Geneva included a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet and a series of bilateral meetings with his foreign colleagues.
