NEW YORK (United Nations). Feb 28 (Interfax) - The United Nations could play a role in resolving the situation surrounding Ukraine, Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said.
"We are convinced that the UN can and should play its role, help bring the positions of various actors closer and remove the reasons for confrontation," Nebenzya said in a speech at an extraordinary session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the UN Charter, the UN Security Council should play a key role, but "the partners are not even making attempts to discuss this issue quietly," he said.
