European countries seeking to make use of current situation to attain domestic political goals - Medvedeev

MOSCOW. March 26 (Interfax) - All political forces in Europe are seeking to take advantage of the current international situation, and therefore, they have chosen Russia as an enemy, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said.

"All political forces in Europe are trying to take advantage of this situation, let's put it bluntly, to attain their own domestic political goals. And every country has ones: some are holding elections, others are having a crisis or want to build a coalition with someone else. And this always requires finding a target or an enemy. In this particular case, our country has been chosen as such an enemy," Medvedev wrote on Telegram.

"This rhetoric is not surprising to me, although sometimes it defies common sense and, so to speak, goes beyond the boundaries of good and evil," he said.

Over the past 30 years, Russia has been "rebuked for numerous deadly sins," for being "ideological successors of the Soviet Union, for being this and that. Therefore, there is nothing new in this Russophobic rhetoric," Medvedev said.

"Sometimes we hear absolutely astounding words, but we are polite people and never resort to ad hominem attacks. Nobody speaks, for instance, about people clearly demonstrating symptoms of senile dementia or who are heading for senility," he said.

"Nobody recalls old men who fall on an airstair, who can't find the right direction toward their office and walks somewhere into shrubs. Nobody speaks about that, because we are decent people and try not to recall such things. But this is a question of culture and upbringing," Medvedev said.
