MINSK. April 28 (Interfax) - A total of 4,283 immigrants have tried to illegally cross into Poland from Belarus since the beginning of this year, the Polish Border Guard said on Thursday.
"Twenty-eight foreigners - citizens of Egypt, Yemen, Syria and Iraq - tried to illegally enter Poland from Belarus on April 27. This month, 977 attempts have been made to illegally cross into Polish territory from Belarus, and the number has reached 4,283 since the beginning of this year," the Polish Border Guard said on Twitter.
According to the Polish Border Guard, 39,700 immigrants tried to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border in 2021. Lithuania and Poland declared a state of emergency in 2021 amid the migration crisis and started to build fences and bolster border security.
