Moscow ready to counsel Baku, Yerevan on borders delimination - Lavrov

BAKU. June 23 (Interfax) - Moscow is set to counsel Baku and Yerevan on the performance of the Azerbaijani and Armenian commissions on border delimitation and demarcation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"We are also ready to provide advisory services on the work of the two commissions set up for the purpose of delimitating and demarcating borders in Azerbaijan and Armenia in accordance with our agreements. There are specific proposals in this regard. I am glad to discuss them with you," Lavrov said at his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in Baku on Thursday.

"There is certain progress" in the work of the trilateral working group on the reopening of communications, he said.

"We are set to do everything possible to help implement the three documents signed by the leaders of the three nations in November 2020, January and November 2021. According to our assessment, there is certain progress in the performance of the trilateral working group for opening up communications," Lavrov said.

In this context, the sides need to reach agreements on points concerning transport communications in terms of maximally comfortable motor traffic in order to avoid artificial barriers, he said.

"I think that the general idea is forming on how to tackle the problem of organizing this work in order to avoid artificial obstacles for car traffic with maximum comfort. Russia will assist in this until results are achieved," he said.

Lavrov also noted that Moscow is ready to assist in negotiations on a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan.

"We hear that the Armenian side, Prime Minister [Nikol] Pashinyan, is ready to conduct negotiations on this matter. We are ready to assist in this endeavor, with the consent of Azerbaijan and Armenia," Lavrov said.
