Moscow to act depending on situation on the ground if Kyiv proposes restarting talks - Lavrov

MOSCOW. June 24 (Interfax) - Russia will act depending on the situation on the ground if the Ukrainian side comes up with a proposal to resume negotiations, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

"When they bother to contact us with a proposal to resume the diplomatic process, something I think the Europeans are urging them to do, but the Britons and Americans are not allowing them, we will act depending on the situation on the ground, the districts that have been liberated," Lavrov said in an interview with the National State Television and Radio Company of Belarus.

"The majority of the population do not even think about returning to the control of neo-Nazi authorities or authorities that condone neo-Nazism in every possible way," he said.

When asked about Russia's attitude to the idea of arranging such talks in Belarus, Lavrov said that "we will be very pleased to accept an invitation from the president of Belarus to gather in Belarusian territory."

"But I would not even predict anything. I do not see now any possibility for the Ukrainian side to offer anything. And we ourselves will not propose anything. We put forth all of our proposals a long time ago. The ball is now in their court," Lavrov said.

"I do not see any possibility that they will be allowed to return to the negotiation procedure," he said.
