Journalist Safronov's lawyer, accused of spreading fakes about Russian army, denies any wrongdoing - defense team

IZHEVSK. June 29 (Interfax) - The court will impose a pre-trial restraining measure on Dmitry Talantov, president of the Udmurtian Bar Association, suspected of disseminating false information about the Russian Armed Forces, on Wednesday, Talantov's lawyer Pavel Biyanov told Interfax, adding that the investigator is seeking a custody term for his client.

"The investigator has filed a motion seeking a custody term, and we expect the court to give us an opportunity now to familiarize ourselves with the materials before the court session begins," Biyanov said.

Talantov denies any wrongdoing.

"He felt unwell yesterday - high blood pressure," the lawyer said.

Talantov was detained on Tuesday for the public dissemination of false information about the Russian Armed Forces driven by political hatred. Searches were conducted in his home and at Udmurtia's Bar Association office. Talantov was transported to Moscow.

The Russian Investigative Committee's Moscow branch has said that Talantov "published false information about the activities of Russian servicemen during the special military operation" on social media in April 2022, "passing it off as trustworthy reports."

Talantov, in turn, is a lawyer for journalist Ivan Safronov, who is charged with high treason. Safronov, who still holds the post of an information policy advisor to the Roscosmos general director, has been in custody since July 7, 2020.
