ST. PETERSBURG. July 19 (Interfax) - A rehearsal for the aviation portion of the main Navy Day parade has taken place in the skies over St. Petersburg, the Western Military District said in a statement on Tuesday.
"A parade aviation group flew in one formation over the central part of the Northern capital near the Senate Square and over the Neva River and also over the Kronstadt roadstead," the statement said.
The rehearsal involved 30 helicopters, including Mil Mi-8 AMTSh, Kamov Ka-27PS and Ka-29, as well as Ilyushin Il-38, Tupolev Tu-134, MiG-29 and Su-27 multirole fighters and other aircraft, it said.
The sorties took place under the control of engineers and technicians from Western Military District airfields. Takeoffs were carried out from airfields in St. Petersburg, in the Leningradskaya, Tver and Novgorod regions, and in the Republic of Karelia.
Earlier on Tuesday, oceanic-zone ships were rehearsing for the parade in the waters of the Kronstadt roadstead.
This year the main Navy Day parade will be held on July 31.
