Ukraine creates threat of undermining nuclear security - Putin

VLADIVOSTOK. Sept 7 (Interfax) - Russia does not understand why Ukraine has been creating a threat of undermining nuclear security across Europe, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"We do not talk about this often, but we are not concealing this either: they [the Ukrainian side] have even tried to perpetrate terror attacks in the Russian territory by blowing up high-voltage power lines near our nuclear energy sites. I mean they have been taking purposeful efforts in this area. Why do this, what's the point in creating a threat to all of Europe; truth be told, I do not quite understand why but they are doing it," Putin said at the plenary meeting of the Eastern Economic Forum on Wednesday.

The Ukrainian side "is creating a threat of undermining nuclear security," Putin said.

"Frankly speaking, I do not quite understand why they are doing it. Do they want to draw attention to their situation or trigger additional crises there?" he said.
