YEREVAN. Sept 13 (Interfax) - Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has held a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Armenian government's press service said.
"Pashinyan briefed Putin on details of the provocative, aggressive actions undertaken by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan against the sovereign territory of Armenia, which began at midnight. It was noted that these actions are being accompanied by strikes involving artillery and large-caliber weapons," the press service said.
These actions by the Azerbaijani side are unacceptable, the Armenian prime minister said, emphasizing the importance of the international community's appropriate reaction to them.
Pashinyan and Putin agreed to keep closely in touch with regard to the ongoing situation, the press service said.
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, in turn, held a phone call with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in light of the latest escalation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
"Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan on September 13 informed Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov about the situation caused by Azerbaijan's aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia," the press service for the Armenian Foreign Ministry said.
The Armenian Defense Ministry has also briefed foreign countries' military attaches accredited in Armenia on the situation along the border.
As reported, Armenia's Security Council has decided to officially appeal to Russia, the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the UN Security Council due to hostilities on the border with Azerbaijan.
