BAKU. Sept 14 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan stands ready to unilaterally hand over to Armenia up to 100 bodies of Armenian Armed Forces servicemen killed in the border conflict on September 12-13.
"Azerbaijan calls on Armenia to cease fire, and declares its readiness to unilaterally hand over the bodies of up to 100 Armenian troops killed while preventing the provocation against the territorial integrity of our country on September 12-13 of this year," the Azerbaijani State Commission for Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons said in a statement.
The commission said it had briefed the International Committee of the Red Cross on the matter.
For its part, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry urged Armenia to comply with the ceasefire agreement. "We call on Armenia to refrain from destructive activities and comply with the humanitarian ceasefire. Peace in the region can be ensured only based on strict observance of international law," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
"The fact that in the current situation Armenia does not cease its provocative actions and shells the Azerbaijani army positions from artillery guns shows that this country is interested in escalating the situation in the region," the ministry said.
