Pacific Fleet ships arrive in South China Sea

VLADIVOSTOK. Nov 7 (Interfax) - A unit of the Russian Pacific Fleet on its way from the Mediterranean Sea to the base in Vladivostok has passed through the Strait of Malacca and arrived in the South China Sea, the fleet press service said in a statement.

The unit comprises of the Varyag missile cruiser, which is the fleet's flagship, alongside the Admiral Tributs destroyer and the Boris Butoma tanker. The ships are returning to base from a mission in a remote naval area, the press service said.

The unit left the Indian Ocean on Sunday.

The ships had an air defense and damage control drill while passing through the Strait of Malacca, the press service said.

The unit departed from the home base in December 2021.
