MOSCOW. Nov 22 (Interfax) - While discussing the establishment of a safety zone around the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP), Ukraine must be compelled to stop shelling the plant's territory and pull back its heavy weapons from it, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"Certainly, speaking of a safety zone, it's necessary to speak only of those who are shelling this plant. A threat to the plant is emanating from those who are shelling it, and it is being shelled by the Ukrainian Armed Forces artillery. That's what must be demanded from Ukraine: it must pull back its heavy weapons, stop firing, and stop endangering the European continent," Peskov told journalists on Tuesday when asked how far discussions on setting up a safety zone around the NPP have moved.
"There has been no significant progress in this regard. And it also depends on what you imply by talking about a safety zone. You know that Russia was earlier urged to remove some heavy weapons from there, while there were none. Then everyone apparently realized that there were no Russian weapons there," Peskov said.
