Latest attack on Zaporozhye NPP targets power sub-stations - Rosenergoatom head's advisor

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Nov 22 (Interfax) - The Ukrainian attack on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in Energodar targeted power sub-stations on Monday, advisor to the Rosenergoatom head Renat Karchaa said.

"They open fire at power sub-stations. They are trying to deprive the NPP of the alternate source of power supply and to cut the main source of power supply to the city," Karchaa told Interfax on Tuesday.

"These attacks aim at leaving the city without electricity and heating besides inflicting infrastructure and energy damage, considering that these are elements of energy infrastructure," Karchaa said. There is yet another goal, psychological, as the strikes aim at stressing the population, he said.

The Russian Defense Ministry said earlier that Ukrainian artillery systems deployed in the Dnepropetrovsk region fired eight heavy rounds at the industrial zone of the Zaporozhye NPP on November 21. Radiation levels are normal on the plant grounds.
