MOSCOW. Dec 16 (Interfax) - Moscow condemns the assassination attempt on Dmitry Syty, head of the Russian House company in the Central African Republic, and expects those who are behind it to be held accountable, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
"We strongly condemn this criminal act, which is clearly aimed at obstructing the Russian House's activities in Bangui, and in broader terms, harming the successful development of friendly relations between our two countries," the ministry said in a statement on Friday.
Moscow expects that "a prompt investigation conducted by competent authorities of the Central Asian Republic will result in identifying those responsible for organizing and perpetrating this evil deed and they will receive the punishment they deserve," it said.
Syty sustained severe injuries in Bangui on December 16, when a parcel addressed to him exploded while being opened, the ministry said. Syty was rushed to the hospital and is receiving emergency medical aid.
Syty has worked in the Central African Republic since 2019 and heads the Russian House multi-profile center, which "implements various programs aimed at expanding trade-economic and humanitarian cooperation between Russia and the Central African Republic, including the promotion of Russian language and culture," it said.
