MINSK. Jan 25 (Interfax) - Pilots of the regional group of forces are capable of accomplishing combat missions at all altitudes and speeds, Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces Andrei Lukyanovich said.
"The flight tactical exercise of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation is ongoing under my command. Aviation is a menacing weapon that has an important role to play, especially in the current situation. Attack, reconnaissance aircraft, fighter-bombers, special aircraft, and helicopters of the army aviation took part in the drills today. The main criterion was the quality of the tasks performed. This concerns the training of flight personnel and the use of aerial weapons. This exercise showed that we are able to carry out missions at all altitudes and speeds," Lukyanovich told reporters at the Ruzhansky air training range in the Brest region on Wednesday.
He said he was pleased with the pilots' performance.
On January 16, air units of the Belarusian and Russian Armed Forces comprising the air component of the regional group of forces started a joint tactical flying exercise.
The exercise is taking place in Belarus, with all airfields of the Belarusian Air Force and Air Defense Forces engaged.
The exercise seeks to enhance interoperability during joint combat training missions. It includes a broad range of missions, such as aerial reconnaissance, joint air patrols along the border, close air support, tactical landing, cargo delivery, and evacuation of the wounded.
