MASSAWA, Eritrea. Jan 27 (Interfax) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said he discussed with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki Russian proposals for the development of the country's industry and expressed the Russian party's readiness to meet Eritrea's defense needs.
"We discussed the economy, natural resources extraction, information and communication technologies, agriculture, infrastructure projects, the capabilities of the seaport and airport of Massawa, as well as Russian proposals for the development of industry in Eritrea," Lavrov told reporters after talks with the Eritrean president.
According to him, these topics will be discussed during the upcoming consultations between the economy ministries of the two countries. "We agreed to begin them in the near future and make them regular," the Russian minister added.
"We discussed military and military-technical cooperation based on the agreements signed earlier. We are ready to meet Eritrea's needs in maintaining its defense capabilities," Lavrov said.
