MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Russian military personnel practiced deploying Bal coastal anti-ship missile systems, also carrying out electronic missile launches, during an exercise on the Baltic Sea coast.
"The training was conducted as part of a routine combat training exercise. It involved up to 50 servicemen and more than ten pieces of military and specialized hardware," the press service for the Russian Baltic Fleet said on Monday.
The drills were held at a military training ground on the Baltic Sea coast, it said.
"Upon arrival in the designated district, the units deployed their coastal missile systems, specified data for electronic missile launches against a seaborne target and simulated the destruction of the target. The missile units' personnel also practiced a changeover from traveling position to firing position and loading the launchers with the use of a transporter-loader vehicle," it said.
The Baltic Fleet's press service said earlier that the Bal system can hit targets within a range of up to 120 kilometers any time of day and night in any weather, while its launchers can be placed in concealed positions within up to 10 kilometers from the shore.
