Tokyo should refrain from moves further souring relations with Moscow - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Jan 30 (Interfax) - Moscow calls on Tokyo to refrain from anti-Russian measures, which would complicate the already difficult relations between Russia and Japan, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

This position was expressed by Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko with Japan's Ambassador Toyohisa Kozuka at a meeting on Monday, the ministry said.

The meeting had been organized "for a meaningful conversation on the most acute issues in bilateral relations," the statement said.

"[Rudenko] directed the Japanese attention to a series of unfriendly moves undertaken recently by the administration of Fumio Kisida towards Russia, including the announcement on January 27 of yet another 'package' of sanctions. We strongly urged Tokyo to take up a pragmatic line and refrain from the anti-Russian measures risking further degradation of bilateral relations," the statement said.
