MOSCOW. Feb 3 (Interfax) - The Brest and Snezhnogorsk anti-submarine warfare corvettes of the Russian Northern Fleet will train firing at coastal, maritime and airborne targets in the Barents Sea, the fleet said in a statement on Friday.
"Ships from the Kola Combined-Arms Flotilla of the Northern Fleet will be fulfilling combat training missions for the next few days. This includes firing at maritime, airborne and coastal targets, as well as other missions, such as the search for submarines and the use of anti-submarine weapons," it said.
"The ASW corvettes will interact with ASW aircraft, i.e., Ilyushin Il-38 planes and Kamov Ka-27 helicopters of the Northern Fleet's Air Force and Air Defense Army at certain stages of the exercise," it said.
The Brest and Snezhnogorsk ASW corvettes are armed with AK-176M and AK-630M air defense artillery systems, RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launchers and 533mm torpedo systems, alongside modern hydro-acoustic systems. They are designed to search for, follow and destroy submarines in short-range maritime and coastal zones.
