Pentagon announces $2.2 bln military aid package for Kiev

WASHINGTON. Feb 3 (Interfax) - The United States Department of Defense on Friday announced yet another tranche of military assistance for Ukraine, the U.S. media reported.

The package is worth an estimated $2.2 billion.

A list of weapons, circulated among U.S. journalists, features additional munitions for HIMARS high mobility artillery rocket systems.

The U.S. will also send, among other things, 155mm artillery shells, mortar munitions, 181 armored mine-protected personnel carriers and 2,000 anti-tank missiles. The weapons are all in stock and so can be sent to Kiev relatively quickly.

Furthermore, the Pentagon said it will purchase several types of weapon for Ukraine. Their delivery will take more time and include various equipment for Ukraine's air defense system, HAWK mobile interceptor missiles.
