MOSCOW. Feb 6 (Interfax) - The Brest and Snezhnogorsk anti-submarine warfare (ASW) ships have held an air defense drill in the Barents Sea, the press service for the Russian Northern Fleet said on Sunday.
"The Brest and Snezhnogorsk ASW ships of the Northern Fleet's Kola Combined-Arms Flotilla drilled repelling a mock enemy's airstrike in the Barents Sea today," the press service said.
The ships were tasked to repel an attack of the mock enemy's aircraft and destroy a small airborne target, it said.
"The ASW ships fired the Osa-MA air defense missile system, AK-176 artillery weapons and AK-630 30mm rapid-fire artillery guns at simulated airborne targets," the press service said.
The ships will fire at various targets and train the search for submarines and the use of ASW weapons in next few days, it said.
"The ASW ships will interact with ASW aviation, namely, Ilyushin Il-38 planes and Kamov Ka-27 helicopters of the Northern Fleet's Air Force and Air Defense Army, at certain stages of the exercise," the press service said.
