Foreign cyber divisions to target Russian critical infrastructure - computer incident center

MOSCOW. Feb 7 (Interfax) - Special cyber divisions, which are being formed in foreign countries, will target Russian critical infrastructure in the first turn, Deputy Director of the Russian National Computer Incident Response and Coordination Center, established on the orders from the Federal Security Service (FSB) administration, Nikolai Murashov said.

"In the modern world, many countries have repeatedly declared the planning of offensive operations on the cyberspace, the establishment of respective units and the priority of their equipment. Under these circumstances, critical infrastructure elements of the Russian Federation will be the main targets of such operations," Murashov said at InfoForum 2023 on Tuesday.

Penetration attempts aimed at the creation of future bridgeheads and the testing of methods of incapacitation and gathering of essential information about the functioning of critical infrastructure "should already be expected," he said.

"A cyber campaign of unprecedented scale has been launched against the Russian Federation in the information space, the main goals of which are to disable the information structure," Murashov said. In his words, the number of cyberattacks on Russian information infrastructure elements "grew manifold" in 2022.
