Armenian president says he believes Azerbaijan not yet ready to sign peace treaty

YEREVAN. Feb 7 (Interfax) - Baku is not yet ready to sign a peace treaty with Yerevan, Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan said.

"I wish to express gratitude for Croatia's stance on the sending of EU observers to Armenia. Regrettably, the country neighboring us is not ready yet or at least is proving by its actions that it's not ready to sign a peace agreement," Khachaturyan said at a meeting with Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Grlic-Radman in Yerevan on Tuesday, according to the Armenian presidential press service.

At the meeting, Khachaturyan and Grlic-Radman discussed the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the blocking of the Lachin corridor and possible ways to overcome the crisis, Khachaturyan's press service said.

Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan attended a press conference together with German counterpart Annalena Baerbock in Berlin earlier on Tuesday and said that Yerevan had received an answer from Baku in reply to peace treaty proposals sent late last year.

"Essentially, the negotiating process is not in a stalemate, talks are continuing, although they are not going smoothly. But we are determined to establish peace in the region and will continue our efforts in this regard," Mirzoyan said.
