Mauritanian president expected to attend Russia-Africa summit in St. Petersburg in July - Lavrov

NOUAKCHOTT. Feb 8 (Interfax) - President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani of Mauritania on Wednesday confirmed his intention to take advantage of Russian President Vladimir Putin's invitation to attend the 2nd Russia-Africa summit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said following a meeting with Ghazouani.

"We discussed preparations for the 2nd Russia-Africa summit, which is to take place in St. Petersburg on July 27-29. Mr. President, who took part in the first such event in Sochi in the fall of 2019, has confirmed that he intends to take advantage of President Putin's invitation and come to the top-level meeting in St. Petersburg at the end of July," Lavrov said.

He also said he invited Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug to visit Russia.

"We are thankful to our Mauritanian friends for their wonderful hospitality. I invited my counterpart to pay a response visit to the Russian Federation at any time convenient to him," Lavrov said.
