CHISINAU. Feb 8 (Interfax) - NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana told Moldovan Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita at a meeting on Tuesday that targeted support to Moldova will be discussed at a meeting of the defense ministers of the NATO member states in late February, the NATO Information Center in Chisinau said on Wednesday.
"Tailored support for Moldova will also be on the agenda when NATO defense ministers will meet here in Brussels next week," Geoana said.
He mentioned that at the NATO summit in Madrid in November 2022, the allies agreed to step up their support "to help Moldova strengthen its resilience and civil preparedness."
"This comes on top of years of NATO support in areas like destroying dangerous pesticides, improving cyber defenses, and enhancing good governance in the armed forces," he said.
He emphasized that NATO is "committed to deepening its partnership with the Republic of Moldova, with full respect for its independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity."
Geoana thanked Moldova for its contribution to the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo and the initiative "through NATO, to provide search and rescue personnel to our ally Turkey in the aftermath of yesterday's tragic earthquakes" and welcomed its constant effort to reform and modernize its armed force, the NATO Information Center said.
