Kiev's only chance to avert catastrophe is to start looking for peace formula taking into account Russia's interests - Matviyenko (Part 2)

MOSCOW. Feb 8 (Interfax) - The only way for Kiev to avert a total catastrophe is to start looking for a peace formula taking into account Russia's interests, Russian Federation Council Chairperson Valentina Matviyenko said.

"The only chance for Kiev to avert a total catastrophe is to start looking for a peace formula taking into account the objective reality and Russia's legitimate interests. This is the only way that has any tangible prospects," Matvyienko wrote on Telegram on Wednesday.

United States President "Joe Biden's promise to maintain military confrontation for as long as it takes, if you think about it, is a requiem for Ukraine," she said.

Ukraine has absolutely no chances to defeat Russia on the battlefield, and therefore, the U.S. president's statement assigns Ukraine the role of "a sacrificial lamb," she said.

"In fact, this is exactly what's happening now. The Ukrainian Armed Forces are suffering huge losses, the economy is collapsing, and the people are fleeing. The country is moving closer to the verge beyond which it risks losing its statehood completely and irreversibly. To what end? For the sake of the interests of the U.S. and its allies? Or the West's desire to preserve global hegemony?" she said.
