Militants plotting terrorist act at railway station neutralized in Russia's Stavropol Territory - NAC

MOSCOW. Feb 9 (Interfax) - A group of militants plotting to stage a terrorist act at a railway station was eliminated by Russian special services in the village of Petrovsky in the Stavropol Territory, Russia's National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) said on Thursday.

"On February 8, during a search operation in the Stavropol Territory, local divisions of the Russian Federal Security Service received information that armed militants, who intended to stage a terrorist act at one of railway stations, were hiding in the village of Petrovsky in the Sovetsky urban district," NAC said.

The militants "were ordered to lay down their arms and surrender to the authorities," it said.

"In response, they opened fire on law enforcement officers and were neutralized during a shootout," the committee said.

There are no casualties among law enforcers and civilians, it said.

A search operation and investigative procedures are underway at the site of the armed clash, NAC said, without disclosing the number of neutralized militants or other details of the special operation.
