PYATIGORSK. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) department in the Stavropol Territory has announced the end of a counterterrorism operation in the village of Petrovsky in the Sovetsky district, where militants plotting a terror attack on railroad were killed on Wednesday, the department press service said on Thursday.
"Following the prevention of a terror attack and the elimination of a threat to the life and health, the counterterrorism operation supervisor has decided to finalize and cancel the legal regime of a counterterrorism operation," the press service said.
The counterterrorism operation began in Petrovsky in the Stavropol Territory at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the press service, it was over at 9 a.m. on Thursday.
The National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) said early on Thursday morning that FSB officers on an investigative mission in the village learned about armed militants in hiding who were plotting a terror attack on a railroad station.
The militants were offered to lay down their weapons and surrender but fired at the law enforcement officers and "were neutralized in the engagement," the press service said. There are no casualties among law enforcement officers and civilians.
