New sanctions on Russia being elaborated by EU to include measures against military officials, journalists - European Commission head

BRUSSELS. Feb 9 (Interfax) - Another package of sanctions against Russia being drawn up by the European Union will target, among others, Russian military officials and journalists, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Thursday.

"In the next stance, we will propose the tenth package of sanctions. First, we will impose sanctions on a number of political and military leaders," she said at a joint press conference with European Council President Charles Michel and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, adding that sanctions will also be extended to several Russian journalists.

She noted that the future package of sanctions should also include restrictions on the export of products worth 10 billion euros.

Previously, von der Leyen said that this package of sanctions would include, in particular, new restrictions on the supply of technology to Russia, which, according to the EU, Russia could use for military purposes.

Previously, the EU reported that it was planning to adopt a new package of sanctions by February 24, 2023.
