State Duma speaker stands against involvement of European Parliament, PACE in Karabakh settlement process

MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin warned against any attempts to involve European bodies, particularly the European Parliament and PACE, in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh situation at a meeting with Speaker of Azerbaijan's parliament Sahiba Gafarova on Monday.

"Let's proceed from the fact that there is a decision adopted at the level of the heads of states, namely, Azerbaijan, Armenia and the Russian Federation. We will be guided by this and will do everything on our part to implement these agreements. And those who make statements regarding European institutions could simply lose their country," Volodin was quoted as saying by the State Duma's official website on Monday.

The involvement of PACE and the European Parliament in the settlement of the Karabakh issue "will exacerbate the situation, create more and more problems, and if they do this, they should bear responsibility for the consequences," the Duma speaker said.

The speaker of Azerbaijan's parliament (Milli Majlis) said that Azerbaijan highly appreciates Russian President Vladimir Putin's role in resolving the issue, according to the State Duma website.
