MOSCOW. Feb 13 (Interfax) - The crews of Ilyushin Il-38 anti-submarine aircraft of the Russian Northern Fleet's Air Force and Air Defense Army have started bombing ground targets during an exercise at the Lumbovka training range located on the Tersky coast of the White Sea, the fleet's press service said on Monday.
"During flight shifts, the Il-38 crews gained practical experience in target detection and approach to it, as well as the use of bombing weapons," the statement said.
The commanders of the Il-38 crews performed control flight missions to obtain a permit for piloting in normal and severe weather conditions both in the daytime and in the dark time of the day.
"One of the most difficult elements of piloting the Il-38 aircraft, which is performed by pilots of the Northern Fleet Air Force and Air Defense Army, will be a landing approach by duplicate avionics and landing of the aircraft with simulated failure of two engines," the fleet said.
