Russian anti-submarine ship drills firing missiles in Barents Sea

MOSCOW. Feb 15 (Interfax) - The Admiral Levchenko large anti-submarine ship of Russia's Northern Fleet has held an artillery and missile firing drills in the Barents Sea, the fleet's press service said in a statement on Wednesday.

"The Admiral Levchenko large anti-submarine ship of the Northern Fleet accomplished a number of artillery and missile firing missions in the Barents Sea as part of scheduled winter combat training plan," the statement said.

"The ship drilled firing from the main battery, the AK-100 artillery system, at visible and closed coastal targets on the shore of the Rybachy Peninsula simulating the enemy's firing positions and command posts," it said.

The ship also held an air defense exercise, firing at a simulated air target from anti-aircraft missile and artillery systems, it said.

The areas where combat exercises in the Barents Sea are held are closed to civil navigation and aviation flights.
