Non-military Western spacecraft used in Ukraine conflict may become counterstrike target - Russian Foreign Ministry

MOSCOW. Feb 16 (Interfax) - Non-military spacecraft, which the United States and its allies have been using during the conflict in Ukraine, may serve as a legitimate target of Russia's counterstrike, deputy head of the Russian Foreign Ministry's non-proliferation and arms control department Konstantin Vorontsov said.

"We are calling attention to the extremely dangerous trend, which exceeds the limits of innocent use of space technologies and clearly manifests itself during the events in Ukraine. This is a matter of military use of civilian space infrastructure elements, i.e. commercial infrastructure, by the United States and its allies," Vorontsov said at a roundtable in the Federation Council.

"In fact, such activity is an indirect involvement in armed conflicts. Such quasi-civilian space infrastructure may serve as a legitimate target of a counterstrike," he said.
