Lukashenko says plans to visit Iran in mid-March

MINSK. Feb 21 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has announced his plans to visit Iran in mid-March, the presidential press service said.

"You know that I am planning to visit Iran at the Iranian president's invitation in the near future, in mid-March. And we'll discuss some substantive aspects of our relations there," Lukashenko said at a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Belarus Saeed Yari.

"I am absolutely convinced that our meeting and negotiations with Iran will be meaningful and should bring us to a higher level of cooperation. But what counts most, we shouldn't lose this momentum and waste time in arranging our relations at a higher level," Lukashenko said.

Speaking of cooperation with Iran, Lukashenko said that, while it could be even more successful, what has already been done during the ambassador's stay in Belarus should serve as a foundation of future bilateral relations.

"Fortunately, the way the situation is developing in the world and around Iran and Belarus prompts us to be closer and look for ways of cooperation that are in demand today," Lukashenko said.
