Ukraine will join NATO, but it is 'long-term perspective' - Stoltenberg

BRUSSELS. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Ukraine could become a NATO member, but it will not happen in the near future, the alliance's Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said.

"NATO allies have agreed that Ukraine will become a member of the alliance, but at the same time this is a long-term perspective," Stoltenberg said at a press conference with Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin in Helsinki on Tuesday.

A top priority at the moment is to continue providing support to Ukraine, he said.

Stoltenberg is in Finland to attend the Nordic Summit.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said on September 30, 2022 that Ukraine was applying for fast-track NATO membership.
