MOSCOW. Feb 28 (Interfax) - Russian President Vladimir Putin has tasked the Federal Security Service (FSB) with barring sabotage groups from entering Russia from Ukraine and blocking illegal arms trafficking.
"The Russian-Ukrainian border section must be under special control of the FSB Border Service. A taskforce has been deployed there now, which includes units from border agencies, the FSB air force, the Armed Forces, and the Russian Guard. Your duty is to put a barrier in the path of sabotage groups and curb attempts to smuggle weapons and ammunition into Russian territory," Putin said at an FSB board meeting on Tuesday.
The FSB should assist the Armed Forces and the Russian Guard in attaining the goals of the special military operation, "including by providing counterintelligence support to military units and quickly sharing meaningful operational intelligence," he said.
"Special attention should be paid to the establishment of security agencies in the DPR, [Donetsk People's Republic], LPR [Lugansk People's Republic], the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. There is a need to reinforce their operational capability and their staffs and provide them with the most advanced equipment," he said.
"The system regulating access of refugees, military convoys, military equipment, humanitarian and construction cargos across the border must be fine-tuned," he said.
