CSTO Council of Defense Ministers due to meet in late May - Belarusian defense minister

MINSK. March 1 (Interfax) - The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Council of Defense Ministers will meet in Minsk on May 25, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said at a working meeting of commanders of international military cooperation units in the armed forces of CSTO member states.

"I have no doubt that the stance declared by the Belarusian side will be relayed by you to the colleagues whom I would be glad to welcome to Minsk on May 25 at a meeting of the CSTO Council of Defense Ministers," the Belarusian state-run news agency BelTA quoted Khrenin as saying.

Each of those present at the meeting in Minsk on Wednesday will speak about their vision of the status and prospect of cooperation in the CSTO format, Khrenin said. That will help elaborate a common concept aimed at further development and strengthening of cooperation "with due account of the new challenges and threats," he said.

The meeting results will lay a foundation for implementing decisions of the CSTO statutory bodies, Khrenin said.
