YEKATERINBURG. March 1 (Interfax) - Mil Mi-24 attack helicopters and Mil Mi-8MTV5-1 military transport helicopters from the Russian military base in Tajikistan have trained searching for and destroying camps of illegal armed units and their sheltered firing positions in ravines at a Tajik range, the press service for the Russian Central Military District said on Wednesday.
"The helicopters stealthily approached targets and tactically destroyed mock enemy sites by guided and unguided munitions. They also practiced maneuvering to avoid MANPADS missiles," the press service said.
Helicopters acted in twos to increase their attack potential, it said.
The 201st military base in Tajikistan is Russia's largest military facility abroad. The base is located in the cities of Dushanbe and Bokhtar and consists of motorized infantry, tank, artillery, reconnaissance, air defense, radiation, chemical and biological protection, and signals units.
