Arms supply to Ukraine to burden German population economically - Peskov

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - The arms supply to Ukraine from Germany won't be a game changer but will become a heavy economic burden on the German population, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

Peskov commented on the upcoming meeting between U.S. President Joe Biden and German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Friday at the request of journalists. The media said that Germany's supply of ammunition to Ukraine would top the agenda. Journalists asked Peskov whether the Kremlin was monitoring the issue.

"We can see the ongoing course of the United States towards increasing arms supplies to Ukraine itself, while encouraging its wards in Europe, i.e. the EU member states, to ramp up similar supplies. Of course, it heavily burdens the economy of these countries. It also has a negative effect on the prosperity of people in those countries, in this particular case, taxpayers in Germany. Their lives will be harder because of that. As for the conflict, we have said before that this could not be a game changer. Yet it's a fact that this will make the conflict more protracted with sadder consequences for the Ukrainian people," Peskov said.
