Russian Investigative Committee reports rise in crimes related to migration, IT

MOSCOW. March 3 (Interfax) - Russia has seen a rise in the crime rate in the fields of migration and information technologies, the Russian Investigative Committee said on Friday following a meeting on the results of the committee's work in 2022.

"Russian Investigative Committee Chairman [Alexander Bastrykin] mentioned the problem of a considerable increase in grave and especially grave criminal acts committed by migrants, elaborating that investigators forwarded over 2,000 criminal cases committed by migrants to courts and investigated 136 cases of violations of migration laws," the Russian Investigative Committee said on its Telegram channel.

Bastrykin also "drew senior officials' attention to the need to counter cybercrime," the Telegram channel said.

"Investigations of over 15,600 criminal acts related to the use of computer technologies took place in 2022, it is 29% more than in 2021. The Investigative Committee is actively developing such important area as cyber forensics, which increases the efficiency of investigations of such criminal acts," it said.
