Russian air defense units simulate missile launches on Kuril Islands

MOSCOW. March 6 (Interfax) - Russia's S-300V4 air defense missile systems have performed electronic missile launches on the Kuril Islands, Russia's Eastern Military District said in a statement on Monday.

"S-300V4 air defense missile units of the Eastern Military District stationed on the Kuril Islands had a scheduled air defense drill," the statement said.

"The training air defense units on duty learned about a simulated violation of the Russian airspace by a group of aircraft, after which S-300V4 air defense missile system units tracked down, identified and locked the targets simulating an air raid by the mock enemy," the district said.

"Training (electronic) launches of missiles at the airborne targets were performed during the drill. The S-300V4 crews successfully 'destroyed' 100% of targets upon their entry of the kill zone," it said.

"The units also trained exchange of current information within the district air defense network," it said.
