BAKU. March 6 (Interfax) - The European Union has called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to prevent any steps aimed at destabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus.
"We urge all stakeholders to show restraint in order to prevent any further actions which could further undermine regional stability and threaten the peace process," the European External Action Service said in a statement circulated on Monday.
The EU deplores the outbreak of violence yesterday, stressing that all circumstances of the incident "need to be fully investigated," it said.
A shootout erupted between Azerbaijani army servicemen and personnel of the Interior Ministry of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in Nagorno-Karabakh on March 5. Fatalities and injuries were reported.
