Telegram blogger sentenced to 8.5 years in jail for fake info about Russian Armed Forces

MOSCOW. March 7 (Interfax) - Moscow's Timiryazevsky District Court has sentenced activist Dmitry Ivanov to 8.5 years in a penitentiary for spreading fake information about the Russian Armed Forces, the court's press service told Interfax.

"Ivanov has been sentenced to 8.5 years in a penal colony of general regime," the press service said.

In addition, Ivanov has been barred for four years "from administering websites and information and communication resources, including those on the Internet."

The court found Ivanov guilty of spreading knowingly false information about actions of the Russian Armed Forces. The investigators and the court said he published fake information about the events in Ukraine.

Ivanov is a Moscow activist, the author of the Protestny MGU Telegram channel.
