ROSTOV-ON-DON. March 9 (Interfax) - Electricity supply from Ukrainian territory to the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) in Energodar stopped last night, and two reactor units receiving power from backup sources will be put in cold shutdown, Renat Karchaa, an advisor to the Rosenergoatom head, told Interfax.
"There was a short circuit at the section between the South Ukraine Nuclear Power Plant and the Dnieper substation. This is not the line that supplies power to us, but power supply was interrupted there because of the short circuit. The reason behind that is not yet clear," Karchaa said.
The Zaporozhye NPP has switched to diesel generators, he added.
"Of course, the reactor units will start to be cooled [they will be transferred from the hot shutdown mode to cold shutdown] using 20 diesel generators. The fuel stockpiles are much larger than what has been reported about them [in the media]. There will be no problems with further deliveries either," Karchaa said.
