Russian Investigative Committee head orders probe into attempted poisoning of Akhmat unit commander

MOSCOW. March 9 (Interfax) - An attempt to poison Akhmat special forces unit commander Apti Alaudinov is being investigated, the Russian Investigative Committee said on Telegram on Thursday.

"Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin ordered the Main Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee to open a criminal case into an attempt to poison Akhmat special forces unit commander, Hero of Russia Apti Alaudinov," it said.

The committee declined to provide any details of the incident, adding that "the course of this investigation is being watched closely."

Head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov said on February 13 that an attempt had been made to assassinate his aide, Akhmat special forces unit commander and Second Army Corps deputy commander Alaudinov.

Kadyrov then said on his Telegram channel that on February 8, Alaudinov's assistant received an envelope addressed to the general. The letter inside that envelope was laced with a toxin.
